£12,500 (excl. VAT)

Original preliminary pencil sketch on paper created by Mary GrandPré in 2006 as she prepared the title-page illustration for the first trade edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

As the final book in the Harry Potter series, Deathly Hallows closes the epic journey. This artwork depicts Hedwig, Harry’s loyal snowy owl, who has been his companion since Hagrid bought her during Harry’s first visit to Diagon Alley at age eleven. The scene sets a quiet, intimate tone for the book, showing Hedwig resting in her cage alongside Harry’s school books, equipment, and wand. This preliminary sketch closely mirrors the final published illustration, with only minor adjustments.
