Original preliminary pencil sketch on paper created by Mary GrandPré in 2006 as she prepared the title artwork for Chapter 15 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, titled The Goblin’s Revenge.
This artwork depicts the goblins Griphook and Gornuk seated by the fire, with Harry and Hermione nearby listening intently. Accompanied by Ted Tonks, the goblins are deep in conversation. Using the extendable ears provided by Fred and George Weasley, Harry, Ron, and Hermione overhear this crucial dialogue. They learn that several Hogwarts students, including Ginny Weasley, attempted to steal the Sword of Gryffindor from Professor Snape’s office. A week later, Snape transferred a sword—later identified by the goblins as a wizard-forged fake—to Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault at Gringotts.
