Original preliminary pencil sketch on paper created by Mary GrandPré in 2006 as she prepared the title artwork for Chapter 10 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, titled Kreacher’s Tale.
This evocative chapter artwork depicts an aged and worn portrait found on the wall of 12 Grimmauld Place, showing James Potter alongside his three closest friends from their school days—Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. The scene unfolds as Harry, Ron, and Hermione return to Grimmauld Place after a Death Eater search, discovering one of the photographs left behind. Mary GrandPré captures the nostalgic and haunting quality of this treasured memory from Harry’s past.
