£8,500 (excl. VAT)
Original preliminary pencil sketch on paper created by Mary GrandPré in 2006 as she prepared the title artwork for Chapter 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, titled The Dark Lord Ascending.
This haunting image depicts Lord Voldemort at Malfoy Manor addressing his Death Eaters. Mary GrandPré deliberately obscured Voldemort’s face beneath a hood, evoking the chilling mystery of his first appearance in the Forbidden Forest in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Behind him, Nagini, his loyal serpent, slithers near his chair as he strokes her. In the final artwork, Nagini’s position was altered slightly to slither across Voldemort’s shoulder, adding further menace to the scene.
