Original preliminary pencil sketch on paper created by Mary GrandPré in 2006 as she prepared the title artwork for Chapter 4 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, titled The Seven Potters.

Following the Dursleys’ departure from Privet Drive, Harry awaits the arrival of members of the Order of the Phoenix. Upon landing in the Dursleys’ backyard, Harry learns of the daring plan: six of his closest friends will use Polyjuice Potion to take on his appearance, creating seven identical Harrys to confuse the Death Eaters during his final departure from Privet Drive. Though initially reluctant, Harry accepts the strategy.

Mary GrandPré masterfully captures the moment just after transformation, as each “Harry” begins to adjust to their new identities—one is feeling his new face, another runs his fingers through his hair, while a third tries on Harry’s iconic glasses. Meanwhile, the real Harry looks on, visibly shocked to see six duplicates of himself.
