Mary GrandPré (American, b. 1954)
Pencil on parchment tracing paper
Signed lower right: Mary GrandPré
26 cm x 21 cm
£6,500 (excl. VAT)

Original preliminary pencil sketch on paper created by Mary GrandPré in 2006 as she prepared the title artwork for Chapter 11 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, titled The Bribe.

This artwork depicts Remus Lupin holding a copy of The Daily Prophet, showing Harry, Ron, and Hermione the front page headline: Wanted for questioning about the death of Albus Dumbledore. This preliminary sketch is unique in portraying Lupin alone, and the final published illustration remains faithful to this original composition. Mary GrandPré masterfully captures the tension and urgency of the moment within the story.
