Original preliminary pencil sketch on paper created by Mary GrandPré in 2006 as she prepared the title artwork for Chapter 26 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, titled Gringotts.
This artwork depicts the entrance to Gringotts Wizarding Bank, setting the scene for the daring infiltration that unfolds in the chapter. Hermione, disguised as Bellatrix Lestrange, accompanies the goblin Griphook to the vault, while Harry remains concealed beneath the invisibility cloak. Mary GrandPré’s illustration cleverly captures the tension and secrecy of the moment without revealing key plot details. After retrieving Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup, Harry, Ron, and Hermione make their dramatic escape on the back of a dragon—a thrilling sequence depicted separately in the catalogue.
