This original preliminary pencil sketch by Mary GrandPré was created in 2006 as the full wrap around dust jacket design for the deluxe slipcase edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Released simultaneously with the first trade edition on 21 July 2007, this deluxe edition was issued in a limited hardback print run of 100,000 copies, housed within a protective slipcase featuring exclusive cover artwork.
The sweeping image vividly depicts the daring escape of Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they flee Gringotts Wizarding Bank atop the winged dragon, capturing the tension and exhilaration of one of the series’ most dramatic moments. Notably, this wrap around sketch omits the title, focusing purely on the dynamic scene that spans the entire dust jacket.
Provenance & Condition
The artwork remains in excellent condition, exhibiting minor wear and gentle creasing consistent with the artist’s working process. It has been professionally preserved and archivally mounted on museum-quality board with protective mats and cover.
