Original preliminary pencil sketch on paper created by Mary GrandPré in 2004 as she prepared the title artwork for Chapter 2 of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, titled Spinner’s End.

This striking study depicts Bellatrix Lestrange and Narcissa Malfoy visiting Severus Snape at his home on Spinner’s End, where the pivotal Unbreakable Vow is made. It is the first time in the series that readers see Snape in the company of Voldemort’s most loyal Death Eaters, firmly raising the stakes and deepening the mystery surrounding his true allegiance.

Within the scene, Wormtail’s presence is also subtly acknowledged, revealing the web of loyalties and danger that envelop Snape.
